The Wonderful Fun of Haiku Poetry
If you haven't written Haiku since grade school--or maybe never have
written it at all--give it a try!! It's a fun, fantastic way to see and express the wonder all around you.

Haiku is a very short form of Japanese poetry which traditionally follows a pattern of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables for a total of 17 syllables to a poem. The last line usually reflects a twist in motif.

1 2 3 4 5
One sees in windows
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Worlds within worlds reflected
1 2 3 4 5
motif twist Look deep within eyes

Now, take a deep breath. Look around wherever you are, inside or out. What magic draws you in? What feelings are brought to you? Take a picture of your wonder. Write a Haiku poem. You are a poet!!!

Enjoy some of the Haiku I have written. The images reflect my love for nature and my rural world.
Stone cast in night pond
Sends ripples in smooth circles
Swirling star glimmer

Spider weaves angles
Symbols of life-lived stories
Watch for tangled webs
Apple found on ground
Squirrel munches joyfully
Deer arrives--Takes over
Five A.M. meow
Yowls "feed me" in sleeping face
Turn over--useless
Dark pond--Tall Cattails Sparkling with deep unseen life
Like the human soul

 A Poem for Thought:

 If day after day
All one takes in
Is the terror and misery
Of the world
That is all one sees,
Knows,
Feels,
Digests
So, what happens?
Anxiety,
Depression,
Fear
But there are other focus choices,
Spirits' beauty,
Kindness,
Hope,

Creating goodness,
Giving,
Helping,
Inspiration

Look around,
See life's possibilities,
Feel the joy,
The wonder all around.
